PCB Planning to Send Psychologist With Pakistan Team For World Cup 2023 Campaign in India

Amidst speculation and planning for the upcoming World Cup 2023 in India, a recent report by Cricket Pakistan has revealed that the Country's Cricket Board (PCB) is considering deploying a team psychologist to support the players.

Psychological support on cards for Pakistan ahead of World Cup 2023

Kicking off on October 5, the marquee event represents a challenging and unfamiliar terrain for the Babar Azam-led team due to their limited experience in playing in Indian conditions.

The Men in Green, as Pakistan's cricket team is known, are expected to face immense pressure not only from the tournament itself but also from the media and fans. Given the potential intensity of the situation, the PCB is looking to maintain a calm and focused dressing room environment.

This consideration comes in light of the fact that a majority of the current squad members have not played in India before. Mindful of the pressures associated with media attention and public expectations, the PCB officials see the benefit in providing psychological support for the team.

While no specific individual has been identified for the role, the Board is actively exploring options. It is also plausible that the appointed psychologist will conduct sessions with the team prior to their departure to India.

Furthermore, the Chairman of the PCB Management Committee, Zaka Ashraf, having committed to nurturing a healthy relationship with the players, has made recommendations concerning the central contract. In line with this, a significant pay raise has been proposed for the players.

Ashraf, on his return from Sri Lanka, plans to consult with team captain, Babar Azam, to gauge his perspective on team management issues.

In a similar move, back in 2012, during Pakistan's last bilateral series tour to India, sports psychologist Maqbool Babri was appointed to accompany the team, co-incidentally under the chairmanship of Zaka Ashraf.
