Mohammad Shami rubbed salt into the South African wounds with a hilarious jibe taken following India's massive win in the ICC World Cup 2023 league-stage encounter in Kolkata on Sunday (November 5). 

The experienced seamer took a funny jibe at the power-packed Proteas batting line-up, which had been piling on huge scores for fun earlier in the tournament but got bundled out for a disastrous 83 all out against India's mighty bowling attack.

The Temba Bavuma-led side had dominated other oppositions into submission with the bat in hand, blasting the highest World Cup score of 428/5 against Sri Lanka and crossing the 300-run mark in five of their previous seven batting efforts of the tournament.

Not only they have a firing opener Quinton de Kock as the numero uno run-getter of the competition - with 575 runs and three centuries but boast of four of the top 12 leading men in the runs chart, including Aiden Markram, Heinrich Klaasen and Rassie van der Dussen. 


Shami's Hilarious Jibe On South African Batting 

With that context in mind, the Proteas were always expected to be Indian bowling's stiffest challenge and even considered favourites to upstage the tournament hosts for once with their battery of rounded batters and powerhitters. 

However, it was India again who flexed their muscles past another opposition line-up by running through the Proteas' defences and technique, with experienced spinner Ravindra Jadeja leading the bandwagon via 5 for 33. 

Moments after the victory was completed and the much-vaunted South African threat cast aside, Shami spoke to host broadcaster Star Sports on their Hindi feed and made a hilarious jibe at the Proteas batting unit. 

As he was queried through the mic by former India cricketer turned commentator Mohammad Kaif about the bowling display, Shami said: "Har baar 400 paar karne walo ka haal dekho (see what we just did to the team who was scoring 400 on a regular basis)", much to the laughs of Kaif and viewers watching the telecast.
