Virat Kohli lists record ton as IND storms to 326

Employing South Africa’s successful World Cup 2023 template, Indian captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to bat before forming a foundation of his team’s 300-plus total within the powerplay itself. The cricketer blasted a scintillating 24-ball 40, and ensured Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer abide their time in the middle overs.

Iyer crafted 77 runs before he skied one off Lungi Ngidi, while Suryakumar Yadav gloved one to Quinton de Kock off Tabraiz Shamsi after slapping a 14-ball 22 in the backend of the innings.

Kohli, on the other hand, remained unbeaten till the end and listed his record-levelling 49th ODI century in the team’s penultimate over. Ravindra Jadeja provided the death-overs flourish for the second time in succession this tournament, as his 15-ball 29* ensured Team India surged to 326-5.

Kohli himself finished at 101* to top-score for his side against the high-flying South African attack.

Having emerged as one of the bowlers of the competition, young Marco Jansen coped some brutal drubbing as he ended up conceding nearly 100 runs from his end, 94 to be exact, off his 9.4 overs.

Ravindra Jadeja folds up SA for 83 with five-fer

Mohammed Siraj, sharing the new ball with Jasprit Bumrah, castled South Africa’s in-form opener Quinton de Kock for just five within his first over of his spell. Proteas captain Temba Bavuma soon followed suite by becoming the first of Ravindra Jadeja’s five victims of the evening, as the ace Indian spinner also accounted for Heinrich Klaasen, David Miller and Keshav Maharaj to finish with 5-33 from his eight overs.

Mohammed Shami and Kuldeep Yadav shared four wickets between them, with the latter landing the finishing blow to fold South Africa up for just 83.

As it turned out, Team India prevailed by 243 runs to cap a lop-sided faceoff, thus preserving their unbeaten run in the 2023 World Cup.
