The rapidly intensifying Bangladesh-Sri Lanka rivalry takes center stage once again when the two nations collide at the historic Feroz Shah Kotla ground in Delhi for Match 38 of the ICC World Cup 2023 on Monday (November 6).

The contest between the understated Asian rivals has picked up steam over time with the heartening rise of the Bangla Tigers as an international force coinciding with the sad decline of the Lankan Lions. From a straightforward outing, their face-off with Bangladesh has become a major headache for the Sri Lankans.

The upcoming clash in Delhi is expected to be no different for either camp, especially with pride and Champions Trophy 2025 qualification at stake amidst the sombre and the disappointment of their respective World Cup 2023 campaign.

In a lacklustre run for both sides, the Sri Lankans have suffered five major hammerings either side of their twin victories while the Bangladeshis are left dealing with an even worse split of 1-6 after disastrously enduring six consecutive drubbings since an impressive start to the competition.

Bangladesh vs Sri Lanka Head-to-Head Record in ODIs

Historically, Sri Lanka have dominated the Bangladeshis in One-Day Internationals. The Lankan Lions have clinched victories in 42 of their 53 matches since the two countries' maiden 50-over clash back in 1986 when the Bangla Tigers were an associate side. In recent history, however, Bangladesh have started bridging the gap and overhauled their bogey side on nine occasions.

Bangladesh vs Sri Lanka Head-to-Head Record in ODI World Cups

Bangladesh have never come close to beating Sri Lanka in the men's 50-over World Cup history. Since a maiden World Cup clash between the two sides at the 2003 edition in South Africa, it's been a comprehensive run for the Lankan Lions.

Sri Lanka have repeated their dominance in all three completed encounters, including also one apiece at the 2007 and 2015 iteration of the tournament. The 2019 encounter between them was abandoned due to rain.
