Arun Jaitley Stadium Delhi Pitch Report For BAN vs SL World Cup Match

The historic Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi plays host to Bangladesh and Sri Lanka for Match 38 of the ICC World Cup 2023 on Monday (November 6). The Bangla Tigers face-off versus the Lankan Lions in India's national capital with a victory urgent for both teams as we approach the fag end of the tournament's league stage.

While their dreams of claiming the prestigious World Cup title have vanished after a disastrous spree of losses, the two Asian rivals still have the chance to secure their berth at the Champions Trophy 2025 by making sure they don't slip further in the ten-team standings of the marquee competition.

Sri Lanka, who crashed out with consecutive hammerings to Afghanistan and India, need to regain the winning ways and post a third victory in their eighth game desperately to avoid slipping further towards the bottom of the pile.

As do the Bangladeshis as they stand on the verge of missing a men's ICC tournament for the first time since their maiden World Cup appearance back in 1999. Shakib Al Hasan's men have now suffered six successive league stage defeats after winning their opening game versus Afghanistan.

Arun Jaitley Stadium Delhi Pitch Report

Historically known for its low-scoring nature as a dry and turning surface, the pitch at the Arjun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi has transformed into a flat-batting paradise at the ongoing World Cup.

With the ground curators providing extra watering and roll-up to the track, it has tended to offer rising bounce and aided consistent stroke-making. From the four previous matches of the tournament played in Delhi, only twice has a batting side fallen below the 250-run mark.

The last game at the ground saw Australia hammer the inexperienced Netherlands side for a whopping 399/8, with South Africa blasting the highest World Cup score of 428/5 at this very ground against Sri Lanka last month.

A similar pitch is expected to be rolled out for the Bangladesh-Sri Lanka encounter, forcing both teams to pull up their socks on the bowling front and raise their respective games with the bat after struggling in either skill.
