The ongoing Ashes 2023 series has been hit both on and off the field. Visitors Australia are currently leading the five-Test series 2-1, with the hosts, England, winning the last Test at Leeds emphatically to stay alive.

However, since the Lord's Test fiasco over Jonathan Bairstow's controversial runout, the series saw social media participation from UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, respectively, defending their cricket teams.

The off-field banter went international when both Sunak and Albanese met on the sidelines of the ongoing NATO summit on Tuesday.

Apart from discussing politics and other important matters, both engaged in a fun banter, which was started off by Albanese, to which Sunak responded in kind.

Australian PM Albanese took to Twitter and shared a clip from his meeting with his counterpart PM Sunak.

Sunak, 43, even took a dig, saying he forgot to bring sandpaper, referring to the infamous 'Sandpaper Scandal' that rocked Australian cricket in 2018 after Albanese showed him that Australia are leading the series.

The fourth Test gets underway on July 19 at Old Trafford in Manchester. England need to win the Test match to keep the series alive.
