Mohammad Shami's memorable 7 for 57 in India's commanding win over New Zealand at the ICC World Cup 2023 semifinal on Wednesday (November 15) was greeted with love and appreciation not just on the outside but also inside the Indian dressing room.

Rohit Sharma's men were grateful to their experienced right-arm seamer for raising his game on the big stage and continuing his excellent run for the marquee tournament. Shami picked up his third five-wicket haul for the competition and added two more scalps to his kitty to ultimately help India power past the spirited BlackCaps at Wankhede Stadium.

Solidifying his spot as the numero uno wicket-taker of the tournament, Shami returned to the changing room with a wide grin and soaked in praise from all corners. One of the players who greeted the veteran pacer with a big beaming smile and even kisses was his longstanding friend and premier off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin

Ashwin Greets Shami With Love And Kisses

Ashwin treated Shami with a kiss on his bowling hand as a huge mark of appreciation and respect for the bowler's feat on one of the biggest nights of the World Cup 2023. The gesture was seen during a BCCI clip unveiled to the cricket lovers after the match against New Zealand was over.

The incident happened when Shami and Ashwin came face to face during the post-match celebrations inside the dressing room with happy faces all around as players and coaching staff shared hugs and patted each other for their contribution.

The two stalwarts initially shook hands with each other before Ashwin bowed down to Shami and kissed his hand, much to the amusement of the bowling coach Paras Mhambrey, who was watching them greet each other with a wide smile.

Shami told Ashwin "acche se jawaab deke aya hun main (I have given them a proper response and came back)", referring to all the pressure and the noise on the outside. The pacer took his tally of scalps for the World Cup 2023 to a whopping 23 scalps in just six outings at a jaw-dropping average of 9.13.
