When it comes to the ODI format, Rohit Sharma is one of the greatest players India have ever produced. Having smashed three double centuries, he is known for scoring big daddy hundreds and even in the ongoing World Cup he played a teriffic knock of 131 runs against Afghanistan. In the nine innings of this World Cup he has smashed 501 runs, which make him the highest score among the Indian captains in a single edition of the World Cup and also becomes the first Indian skipper to score 500+ runs. 


Sourav Ganguly - 465 Runs (World Cup 2003)

One of the most successful Indian captains, Sourav Ganguly was known for his aggressive approach. In India's run to the final in the World Cup 2003, the captain, Sourav Ganguly had a great time in the tournament along with Sachin Tendulkar. Ganguly went on to smash 465 runs in 11 innings including three centuries and the highest score of 111. He was on the top of the list until Rohit Sharma surpassed him in the ongoing World Cup.

He has been the most consistent player in the history of Indian cricket with a staggering average of 58.4 in his 290 matches long ODI career. During his captaincy tenure in the World Cup 2019, he smashed 443 runs in nine innings including five half-centuries.


Mohammad Azharuddin - 332 Runs (World Cup 1992)

But the Indian captain Azharuddin was leading the team from the front. He smashed 332 runs in just eight innings including the highest score of 93, which came against Australia.
