The first-round match between Australia and India, two undisputed cricketing giants, did not go as fiercely competitively as the fans had hoped on Friday (September 22) in Mohali. The Kangaroos had all ten of their wickets taken by the Men in Blue before they successfully chased down a 277-run target with a few hiccups.

As a result, the hosts now have a 1-0 advantage in the three-match ODI series and are in a position to win it without the help of star individuals Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Hardik Pandya, and Kuldeep Yadav.

Brace yourselves, because the second round is all set to take place on Sunday at Indore’s Holkar Cricket Stadium, where batters go absolutely bonkers for fun.

India

Mohammed Shami bowling at his best in Mohali made India ecstatic. Perhaps in order to balance Mohammed Siraj’s workload, the veteran pacer was given the chance, and he seized it wholeheartedly.

On the contrary, Shardul Thakur had a forgetful day, conceding 78 runs without scalping any wickets. The audition for India’s No. 8 at the ODI World Cup is still on, and Shami, with a clinical five-for in Mohali, is probably just ahead of Shardul at this point.

Another major plus for the Men in Blue was the performance of Suryakumar Yadav, who displayed temperament when required the most. Although KL Rahul and Shubman Gill provided strong support, SKY's 49-ball 50 held the absolute key to India's successful chase.

India's only potential change for the second ODI is to reintroduce Mohammed Siraj to the lineup to test him against Australia's prolific batters. If that happens, Shardul may have to make room for him.

Australia

Australia got off to a strong start in Mohali thanks in large part to David Warner, who will have his one last dance at the ODI World Cup. Alongside the southpaw, even though Marnus Labuschagne, Steve Smith, Cameron Green, and Josh Inglis all had strong starts, none of them contributed significantly, making it difficult for Australia to register close to 300 runs.

While the batters gave it their all up until a certain point, Australian bowlers disappointed fans all over the world. Their attack has received high praise over the years for its propensity to turn the tide by picking up wickets quickly, but on Friday, it completely fell short.

Upon his return, Pat Cummins bowled masterfully, taking 1/44 in his 10 over. Adam Zampa also did his job, taking 2/57, but the other players fell short of their high expectations, frequently making the attack appear harmless.

With Mitchell Starc and Glenn Maxwell still not fully fit for an ODI game, Australia may bring Josh Hazlewood to sharpen the attack. The ace fast bowler might replace Matthew Short, who did not contribute much in Mohali.

IND vs AUS: Winner Prediction

Considering Australia’s power-packed batting unit which can score runs for fun at Holkar, our prediction will be in favour of Australia leveling the series. The presence of Kohli, Rohit, Hardik, and Kuldeep in the potential decider will be more significant in this situation.
