As India took on Australia in the opening game of their three-match ODI series, Mohali's home-grown talent, Shubman Gill, shone brightly, and watching this masterclass from the stands were his family members, swelling with pride.

Shubman Gill lights up Mohali as proud family witnesses magic

The Mohali Stadium bore witness to an elegant batting display by the young opener, who continued from where he had left in Asia Cup 2023. Gill, alongside his opening partner, Ruturaj Gaikwad, set about chasing down Australia's target of 277 with remarkable composure. While Gaikwad played the anchor role, Gill unleashed a range of sumptuous strokes, leaving fans and pundits in awe.

What added an emotional layer to this exceptional display was the sight of the Gill family in the stands. Their expressions of pride and joy, as they watched their son dominate the Australian bowling attack, captured the hearts of millions.

A heartwarming photograph of them engrossed in the match quickly took social media by storm, summing up the sentiment of an entire nation cheering for its emerging star.

Meanwhile, at the time of writing this article, India seems to be on cruise control. After 24 overs, they are comfortably positioned at 148/2 with Gill batting on 72 and captain KL Rahul new at the crease

The 142 run opening stand has already put Australia on the back foot, reducing the required run rate to under five runs per over. This confident start in the series will undoubtedly play a crucial role in bolstering India's confidence ahead of the upcoming World Cup 2023.

Earlier in the day, the Aussies found themselves restricted to 276, despite a fighting half-century from David Warner. The other Australian batsmen struggled to convert their starts into substantial scores. Indian pacer Mohammed Shami was the chief tormentor, recording a career-best 5/51 in his 10 overs.
