Indian opening batsman Shubman Gill has recalled his honest childhood memories ahead of his side’s World Cup 2023 final against Australia. Born in 1999, the cricketer bore witness to Australia’s rampant unbeaten run at the 2003 and 2007 World Cups.

Moreover, the decade also marked Australia’s sheer dominance across all Test matches, regardless of conditions, and unreal supremacy in numerous ODI tussles.

As Gill gears up to face Australia at the 2023 World Cup final, the 24-year-old candidly revealed that during his early days, he always hated to see Australians win.

Gill, while speaking with the official broadcasters of the 2023 World Cup, revealed that he always wanted to see Australians lose during his childhood. The dashing Indian opener also added that whenever he himself plays against Australia, his mentality is to defeat them “at any cost”.

Speaking on the eve of the 2023 World Cup final in Ahmedabad, Gill said:

“I'm absolutely hated to Australians win from my childhood; I always want Australians lose. Whenever I play against Australia, I only think is to beat them at any cost.”

As it turns out, Shubman Gill will soon face Australia in one of the most significant matches of his career to date, the 2023 World Cup final. The much-awaited contest will be hosted by the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on November 19.

Gill himself has scored 350 runs for India across eight innings of the 2023 World Cup so far, with four match-winning half-centuries to his name. The 24-year-old has formed crucial opening stands with captain Rohit Sharma at the top, and their batting bombardment within the powerplay have been setting up a clear path for a colossal Indian score.
