Life Comes Full Circle As Srikkanth Clicks Pic With Rohit Before World Cup Final

Life has come full circle for Rohit Sharma as India's inspirational skipper approaches the ICC World Cup 2023 final on Sunday (November 19) with great expectation and fanfare against Australia in Ahmedabad.

Rohit, who had been snubbed as a young talent for the 2011 edition, was seen clicking pictures with the man who decided to leave him out back then.

Former chief selector Kris Srikkanth requested the Indian captain for a click together at the Motera Stadium in Ahmedabad on the eve of the marquee face-off with the Australians in a moment that warmed the hearts of cricket lovers.

Veteran journalist Vimal Kumar pointed out that Srikkanth was the one who had made a call to oust the then faltering young right-hand batter from India's World Cup squad and is requesting to take pictures with him 12 years later ahead of a final of the showpiece quadrennial event.

Rohit still recalls the 2011 snub as one of the toughest moments and phases of his professional career as his exit from the squad instilled a sense of doubt and depression inside the player's head. Back then, the Mumbaikar was one of the middle-order players unable to carve a space for himself in a packed batting line-up, with inconsistent game plaguing his wings.

Since then, however, Rohit has transformed into one of the finest limited-overs opening batters with three One-Day double centuries in an overall tally of 10,662 runs at an average of 49.13 and strike-rate of 91.81, including 31 hundreds.

At the ongoing World Cup, the 36-year-old has elevated his batting to another level of standard and impact value, becoming a valiant aggressor at the top. He has blasted his 550 runs at a remarkable strike-rate of 124.15 and made a huge influence on India's success.

Srikkanth would barely be able to recognise the player he once dropped as Rohit of today is a significantly better cricketer with experience and range. The former India opener would be respectful and proud of Rohit for also carrying no animosity with him and understanding that the times and circumstances were different when he axed him from the 2011 World Cup side.
