India's most formidable challenge will soon knock at their door when they meet Australia in the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 starting in November. Ahead of the crucial clash, India has looked out of touch, so much so that their qualification for the WTC Final 2025, which earlier seemed easy, now depends on winning quite a handful of their games: four out of six, to be exact.

India's WTC Final Qualifications in Danger

In simpler words, Rohit Sharma and Co can in no way, shape or form afford to lose any games in the future. To achieve these victories, India not just needs the support from the entire team but also the resurgence of the OG Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma: the Kohli that won India it's first BGT in Australia and the Rohit who slammed a brilliant 171* in Perth back in 2016. Though, it was in ODIs, Rohit needs to focusing on translating it to the longest format of the game.

Their recent form against Bangladesh, as well as New Zealand, has raised eyebrows. Several cricketers criticised them and said the RO-KO duo should be dropped. Despite this, India's former right-handed batter, MSK Prasad has shown his support for the Indian legends.

Kohli And Rohit Need To Step Up

During a discussion on StarSports, Prasad said India needs Kohli and Rohit to contribute significantly with the bat to create something magical and inspire other team members in Australia.

"Absolutely right, because if they don't step up and inspire, the rest will find it very difficult. Both of their styles suit these kinds of conditions much better. Anything hard and bouncy, both of them really enjoy," he said.

He also said that despite not knowing when Kohli would arrive in Australia, the star Indian batter, who loves to bat against Australia, would look to conclude the series on a very high note with a top-notch performance.

"I don't know when Virat is going to come back to Australia again but he would love to complete this series on a very, very high and top-notch performance, and that's what exactly I am expecting both from Virat and Rohit," the former India wicketkeeper-batter added.

He further spoke about Virat Kohli and Australia, a one of its kind love story. Kohli who has played 25 Tests has amassed 2042 runs  has slammed eight centuries and five half- centuries in Australia.

"Virat Kohli is like a duck getting into the water when he goes to Australia. He loves these conditions and probably he must be eagerly itching to just finish off this Wankhede Test match and then go and play in Australia because he loves that," he said.

Meanwhile, India will lock horns with New Zealand in the third and final Test starting from 1 November at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Following which, India's 18-member squad for the all-important Border Gavaskar Trophy will soon leave for Australia.
