In a recent interview with Star Sports, Kohli dived into the technical facets of the ODI format. He also pointed out the importance of adaptability, especially when facing challenges such as Pakistan's potent bowling attack and the pressure of participating in big tournaments.
Kohli believes that a successful strategy in white ball cricket is to remain aggressive. However, he was quick to point out that being mindful of the game's situation is vital. In crucial matches, a one-dimensional approach will not suffice, with Kohli suggesting that retaining composure plays a decisive role in achieving victories.
“In white ball cricket, mindset has always been to be aggressive. Its always important to be aware of what the situation of the game is regardless of how you want to play. You can’t play one dimensional cricket in ODIs for sure, especially in big tournaments because the pressure is that much more. So, composure is what wins you games. I think still in ODI cricket there is a huge place for composure,” said Kohli.
Highlighting the strengths of Pakistan, the modern-day legend acknowledged Pakistan's powerful bowling lineup. He reckoned that the Pakistani bowlers possess the capability to alter a game's direction at any given moment with their skill set. Thus, he stressed the need for Indian batsmen to be at the top of their game.
“I feel bowling is their strength and they have got some really impactful bowlers that can change the course of the game anytime based on their skill set so you have to be at your absolute best to face them,” added the Indian veteran.
As for the packed schedule that awaits India, with back-to-back participation in the Asia Cup and World Cup 2023, Kohli expressed enthusiasm and confidence. He shared that the team has geared up for the demanding three months ahead, both mentally and physically. The former captain concluded, indicating that they are hopeful these tournaments will be fruitful for the Indian team.
“Very excited, well prepared. Feeling good both mentally and physically. The next three months are going to be challenging and quite hectic also but we have prepared accordingly and hopefully, they turn out to be really good for us,” concluded Kohli.
