Pakistan's Captain, Babar Azam smashed a sensational 151-run century against rookie team Nepal yesterday, in the inaugural match of the ongoing Asia Cup 2023 at Multan Cricket Stadium in Multan.

In his remarkable feat, Babar not only broke the record for the fastest 19th-century record in ODIs but also eclipsed King Virat Kohli's record of 136 runs as captain in a single innings in the Asia Cup. Babar's outstanding performance was highlighted by his 151 runs from 131 balls, including 14 fours and four sixes.

His partnerships, particularly a remarkable 214-run partnership with Iftikhar Ahmed and an 86-run stand with wicket-keeper Mohammad Rizwan, played a crucial role in lifting Pakistan from a tough position. Despite the team losing wickets at various intervals, Babar remained a strong pillar on one end.

Opting to bat first, Pakistan had a dismal start as their opening duo, Fakhar Zaman and Imam-ul-Haq, fell cheaply within just 7 overs, leaving the team struggling at 25 for 2. Despite Mohammad Rizwan's promising start (44), he couldn't convert it into a significant score, while Agha Salman (5) struggled to make an impact.

In contrast, Babar Azam showcased resilience at one end and eventually found a reliable partner in Iftikhar Ahmed. The two batters each achieved centuries, propelling their team to an imposing total of 342/6. Babar Azam's remarkable innings, came to an end in the final over.

Iftikhar Ahmed, on the other hand, remained unbeaten with an impressive 109 runs from just 71 balls, including 11 fours and 4 sixes. In response to Pakistan's substantial target, newcomers Nepal struggled to mount any noteworthy challenge. They lost wickets consistently and were eventually dismissed for a modest score of 104.

The-Babar Azam led side would now look to build upon their impressive start in the Asia Cup as they prepare to compete against long-standing adversaries India in their second group match on Saturday at Pallekele.
