Displaying finesse and grace, the right-hander played a dominant innings, scoring 151 runs from just 131 deliveries, inclusive of 14 fours and four sixes.

This outstanding performance by Babar against Nepal led to a cascade of shattered records as Pakistan won the game by a whopping 238 runs. Below is the list of records Babar broke with his hundred in the PAK vs NEP clash.

  • Fastest cricketer to reach 19 ODI centuries in just 102 innings. South African legend, Hashim Amla had this record to his name, who achieved this in 104 innings.
  • Second-highest score in Asia Cup history, second only to Virat Kohli's 183 against Pakistan in 2012.
  • First captain to notch up 150 or more in an Asia Cup match, surpassing Kohli's 136 against Bangladesh in 2014.

  • Only the second instance of Babar scoring over 150 in an ODI; his personal best being 158 against England in 2021.
  • Strengthened his position as the top player in the ODI Batters' Rankings.
  • Elevated his ODI batting average to an astounding 59.47 - the fourth-highest ever in men's ODI cricket and the best for players with over 2000 ODI runs.
  • Equalled Pakistan's legendary cricketers, Javed Miandad and Saeed Anwar, with his 31st international century. Only Younis Khan (41), Mohammad Yousuf (39), and Inzamam-ul-Haq (35) have more from Pakistan.

With the Asia Cup in its early stages and World Cup 2023 around the corner, the stage is set for Babar to break even more records by the year's end.

Pakistan's next challenge in Asia Cup 2023 will be against their long-standing rivals, India, in Pallekele on Saturday. Their World Cup campaign will kick off against the Netherlands in Hyderabad on October 6.
