Delhi Capitals romped to a comprehensive eight-wicket win over Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at Lucknow’s Ekana Stadium in match number 40 of the IPL 2025 season. While fast bowler Mukesh Kumar headlined the win through his four-wicket haul, the seeds of Capitals’ successful chase were sown by young opening batter Abishek Porel at the top of the order.
Porel listed 51 runs from 36 balls with five boundaries and a six to make lightwork of LSG’s 159-run total. Porel’s run-chase masterclass was also complemented by number three batter and senior man KL Rahul, who recorded an unbeaten half-century of his own to anchor the decisive stages of the innings.
Abishek Porel Reveals “Ultimate goal”
Young Delhi Capitals opener Abishek Porel recorded his third IPL half-century through the course of his match-winning 51 against LSG at the Ekana Stadium on Tuesday, April 22. While speaking at the press conference, the 22-year-old stated that while his ultimate goal is to find a spot in the Indian team, his current mindset is entirely focused on scoring runs for the Delhi Capitals in a bid to help them win the IPL 2025 title.
He said:
“The ultimate goal is to play for India. But right now I'm focusing on scoring runs for Delhi Capitals and helping the side win the trophy.”
As it happened, LSG batted first and formed 159-6 from 20 overs upfront. Opening batter Aiden Markram top-scored in the innings with a sublime 33-ball 52. His partner Mitchell Marsh also clubbed a calculated 45, before Mukesh Kumar ran through the rest of the LSG top-order with four key wickets.

Apart from Mukesh, Mitchell Starc and Dushmantha Chameera also chipped in with a wicket each in the innings.
Chasing 160, Delhi Capitals lost opener Karun Nair early to Aiden Markram, before Abishek Porel and KL Rahul clattered confident half-centuries in their match-defining partnership. Captain Axar Patel launched four sixes in his unbeaten 20-ball 34* to take Delhi Capitals to a comfortable win in just 17.5 overs.
