Prabath Jayasuriya Blanks BAN As SL Win Series
Sri Lankan spinner Prabath Jayasuriya mopped up the Bangladeshi tail early on Day 4. Resuming their second innings at 115-6 from 38.4 overs, Bangladesh folded up for just 133 to fall an innings and 78 runs short of Sri Lanka. Jayasuriya picked up sensational figures of 5-56 from his 18 overs, as Sri Lanka sealed the two-match Test series by a 1-0 margin.
Despite Jayasuriya’s five-fer on Day 4, opening batter Pathum Nissanka won the ‘Player of the Match’ award for his splendid 158.
Najmul Hossain Shanto Steps Down As BAN Captain
Senior batter Najmul Hossain Shanto has stepped down as Bangladesh captain following his team’s crushing defeat against hosts Sri Lanka on Day 4 of the Colombo Test. The cricketer confirmed the same during the post-match press conference, claiming that his decision will benefit the team going ahead.
Shanto was recently stripped of his ODI captaincy by the BCB in favour of all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz. Moreover, the top-order batter also stepped down as Bangladesh’s T20I captain earlier this year, allowing the board to appoint Litton Das as new 20-overs skipper.
Head, Webster, Carey 60s And Hazlewood Five Take AUS 1-0 Up
Australia blanked West Indies by 159 runs in Bridgetown to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match Test series. Resuming the innings at 92-4 on Day 3, overnight batters Travis Head and Beau Webster as well as wicketkeeper Alex Carey bludgeoned attacking 60s to take Australia to a fighting 310 from 81.5 overs. For the West Indies, fast bowler Shamar Joseph picked up five wickets in the innings to complete nine for the match.
Chasing 301 for a win, West Indies folded up for just 141 in 33.4 overs, with Shamar top-scoring through his explosive 22-ball 44. Josh Hazlewood pummelled West Indies with a sizzling five-wicket haul before Nathan Lyon mopped up the tail.
Pretorius, Bosch Tons And Brevis 51 Take SA Past 400 On Day 1
South Africa reached 418-9 from 90 overs by stumps on Day 1 of the series-opening first Test against Zimbabwe in Bulawayo. Debutant Lhuan-dre Pretorius pounded 153 runs off 160 balls with 11 fours and four sixes to tonk his maiden Test hundred. Corbin Bosch remained unbeaten at 100* from 124 balls, while T20 specialist Dewald Brevis cracked a speedy 41-ball 51.
For Zimbabwe, fast bowler Tanaka Chivanga picked up four wickets in the innings at an expense of 83 runs from his 16 overs.
Smriti Mandhana Century, Charani’s Four-Fer Crush England
India Women hammered their English counterparts by 97 runs in Nottingham to take a 1-0 lead in the five-match T20I series. Stand-in skipper and opener Smriti Mandhana composed 112 runs off 62 balls to record her maiden T20I century, as India Women mounted 210-5 from 20 overs.
Making her T20I debut, young Indian spinner Shree Charani picked up four wickets, including the prized scalps of Alice Capsey and Nat Sciver-Brunt to bag figures of 4-12. Deepti Sharma and Radha Yadav also picked up two wickets each as England folded up for just 113 in 14.5 overs, with captain Brunt herself minting 66 of those runs from just 42 balls.
