'Today I Played With...': Abhishek Sharma Hits Maiden T20I Ton With 'This' Superstar's Bat

Abhishek Sharma, who scored a quick century against Zimbabwe yesterday, admitted to using the bat of his team's skipper, Shubman Gill, during the match. His century off 46 balls in Harare ranks as the third fastest century by an Indian batter, with Rohit Sharma at first.

Abhishek Sharma has been a standout performer in the IPL 2024 season, scoring 484 runs and forming a strong opening partnership with Australian batsman Travis Head at Sunrisers Hyderabad. 

He was the highest six hitter of the season with 42 sixes and he maintained a strike rate exceeding 200 in IPL 2024.

His impressive IPL form earned him a spot in India's squad for a five-match T20I series against Zimbabwe. Despite a lackluster performance in the debut game, the talented southpaw bounced back spectacularly in the second match, scoring a magnificent century.

I used Gill's bat to score maiden T20I ton: Abhishek

Thanks to Abhishek's century Indian won the game for 100 runs against Zimbabwe in the second T20 game of the series and leveled the series for 1-1.

After the match, the youngster confessed that he used Shubman Gill's bat to score his century against Zimbabwe.

"Today I played with Shubman Gill's bat. So a special thanks to the bat as well. And this happens, I think, from the under-12 days. Whenever I think like, this is a pressure game or this is, you know, a match where I should perform, I usually take his bat."-Abhishek Sharma said.

Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill have been friends since childhood. They were both part of the Indian team that won the Under-19 World Cup in 2018, with Gill as captain and Sharma as a teammate. Their enduring friendship will be beneficial for both players and the Indian team.
