The upcoming series against England turned out to be a dream-come-true moment for the Gujarat Titans opener Sai Sudharsan as he received his maiden Test call-up. As the Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee announced India’s squad, the youngster made his place in the squad.
Reflecting on a major milestone in his career, he shared that while he has personal preferences, he's ready to bat wherever the team needs him.
Sudharsan Highlights His Flexibility With A Team-First Attitude
After Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma’s retirement, Team India is on their first Test series. Before facing England in a five-match Test series, the selection committee has announced an 18-member squad. After a stellar performance in the ongoing IPL 2025, the Gujarat Titans opener Sai Sudharsan received their maiden Test call-up. Having county experience has become his added advantage for the series.
With some unforgettable knocks this season, Sudharsan is standing in the second position on the orange cap list. With two key spots vacant in the lineup, he isn’t picky about his batting position. Instead, he’s focused on stepping up wherever the team needs him most, showcasing a selfless and adaptable mindset.
“I have many likes. But I don’t think I am in a position to choose where I want to play. Wherever the coaches tell me to play, I think I will be mentally and obviously skilfully, you know, try and be ready for the opportunity,” Sudharsan said.
Heartfelt Praises For Skipper Shubman Gill
In the ongoing edition, Sai Sudharsan and skipper Shubman Gill’s partnership has already stunned the cricket world. With Sudharsan earning his maiden Test call-up and Gill stepping in as India's new Test skipper, the duo will represent the nation together. As he gears up for his debut, Sudharsan is excited to take the field under Gill’s leadership.
“I have been a part of his growth (Gill’s) as well. I have seen him for the last four years. Such a talented batsman, such a skilful batsman, anybody can see. He will definitely bring laurels and do great things for the country. I am very happy to play under him in my first Test series,” he added.
Following Rohit Sharma’s retirement, Shubman Gill has risen to become India’s 37th Test captain. With the England series on the horizon, fans are aiming for a great captaincy debut.
