'Time To Unfold Final Chapter': AB de Villiers Hints At Virat Kohli's Future Plans

Apart from ICC trophies, for Indian fans, nothing else matters the most than Virat Kohli. Kohli, 35, is currently in the twilight of his illustrious career and churned out one of the best World Cup performances by any batter across editions in the recently concluded ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.

Kohli amassed 765 runs in CWC 2023, with three hundred and six fifties, winning the 'Player of the Tournament' award. However, the 35-year-old asked for a break from white-ball cricket, which sees the batter miss out on T20Is and ODIs against South Africa next month.

With age slowly catching up with the super-fit Kohli, his time in the field in coloured clothing gets selective and picky.

Former South Africa captain and a good friend of Kohli, AB de Villiers has opined on the way forward for Kohli. In a freewheeling chat with Hindustan Times, former Royal Challengers Bangalore teammate de Villiers wished that Kohli played Tests and ODIs while unfolding the final chapter of his 16-year-old career.

Here's what de Villiers said about Kohli's future

"I hope he continues to play ODIs and Tests. I'm sure he has got a plan in place. It's very reasonable and normal for him to be tired, to feel like it's time for him to unfold that final chapter in a way. I don't exactly know how long he will play for but I would like it to be for as long as possible. He's been incredible to watch and we all want to see a little bit more of him. The South Africa series is important to him, and he might play a few, rest and sit out a few and find a way to manage himself leading up to the end of his career."

Meanwhile, Kohli will be in action for India in the Test series in South Africa that gets underway on Boxing Day at Centurion.
