In a significant development with regards to the Indian ODI side, many big players of India's World Cup 2023 squad have not been included for the three-match ODI series against South Africa in the rainbow nation starting from December 17 at the Wanderers in Johannesburg. The big names to miss out are Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Mohammed Shami to name a few, and with Hardik Pandya also injured, KL Rahul has been handed the leadership duties.

India have announced a 16-member ODI squad with selectors emphasising on youngsters as  try to build a team for the next cycle of 50-over cricket. The likes of Sai Sudharsan, Rinku Singh have received their maiden ODI call-up while Rajat Patidar and Sanju Samson are also back in the mix.

Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj have also been rested from the ODI squad as India have opted to try out their next line of pacers. Kuldeep Yadav though has been retained while Yuzvendra Chahal is also back in the ODI team after missing out in World Cup 2023.
