Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) star and Madhya Pradesh veteran Rajat Patidar received his long awaited national callup for Team India for their forthcoming all-format tour of South Africa. The 30-year-old has been selected among a 16-player squad for the three-match ODI series, set to be played between December 17 and December 21.

A day after his national selection, Patidar produced a fighting half-century for Madhya Pradesh in their tense run-chase against Baroda during their 2023 Vijay Hazare Trophy showdown in Mumbai’s Brabourne Stadium. The cricketer scored a fluent 77 off just 74 balls to register his third fifty-plus score of the tournament, and the 14th of his dazzling List A career.

Turning up for Madhya Pradesh in their crunch Vijay Hazare Trophy 2023 game against Baroda in Mumbai, Rajat Patidar listed a counterattacking 77 from just 74 balls to lead his team’s fightback in a tense run-chase.

Batting at number four and arriving to the crease in just the sixth over of the innings, Patidar formed a rebellious third-wicket stand with opening batsman Yash Dubey, in a bid to take Madhya Pradesh closer to their 264-run task.

Rajat Patidar also registered scores of 64 and 70 in successive innings against Goa and Nagaland earlier in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy 2023 season.

The 30-year-old made his IPL debut through the RCB franchise back in 2021, and shot himself to instant stardom the following year by minting over 300 runs in just eight innings.

The right-handed batting prodigy was handed a national call-up in February 2023 for India’s home ODI series against New Zealand, however, he failed to make it to the playing XI in each of team’s three planned fixtures.
