As Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) gear up to face Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the blockbuster IPL 2025 final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, one major question looms large over the RCB camp: Will Tim David play today’s final?
The powerful Australian allrounder has been an integral part of RCB’s campaign this season, providing a crucial finishing touch to the innings with his big-hitting prowess. However, his availability for the final remains uncertain after he suffered a hamstring injury during RCB’s group-stage clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).
He sustained the injury while fielding in the first innings, and that forced him to miss the team’s subsequent games including the vital Eliminator and Qualifier match.
Rajat Patidar’s Worrying Update On Tim David
Speaking to the media a day before the final, RCB captain Rajat Patidar did not offer much clarity on David’s status but hinted that the camp itself is waiting on the medical team’s verdict.
“I have no idea about Tim David. Doctors will let us know this evening,” Patidar said in his press conference to reporters.
It is important to note that his comments have only fueled speculation and concern about the availability of Tim David. Given his impact in the few matches he played this season. He has made 187 runs at a staggering strike-rate of 185 and an average of 64.
Notably, one of those standout performances came against PBKS in a rain-affected group match, where he smashed his maiden IPL half-century. That innings underlined why RCB would love to have him available in the final, especially given his track record in high-pressure moments.
RCB’s Contingency Plan Without David
Despite his absence in recent games, RCB have shown resilience. They won both matches without Tim David, defeating LSG in the last group stage match and PBKS in Qualifier 1.
As of now, Tim David’s participation remains doubtful. RCB’s medical team is expected to make a final call just hours before the toss. Even if he is cleared, it’s uncertain whether the team management would risk playing him in a high-stakes final after limited match fitness.
