India's Test squad for the upcoming West Indies tour has raised several questions about the criteria of selection. Domestic performers were overlooked, while others who did well in Indian Premier League (IPL) have been handed out flight tickets.

One of the most consistent players in the Ranji Trophy lately has been Bengal's Abhimanyu Easwaran, who is currently leading East Zone in the ongoing Duleep Trophy 2023.

Easwaran, who also captains India A, has been part of India's tour to England and Bangladesh last year, however, finds himself out of a squad for the Caribbean tour.

Speaking on the sidelines of the Duleep Trophy Quarter Final encounter against Central Zone, the 27-year-old spoke about making it back into the Test setup soon, and that he aims to play for India.

Here's what Easwaran said

“It’s natural to be a little disappointed. But when you have such a big dream, that passion overpowers everything. I obviously tell myself and I have this inside me that I will never give up. Till the time I play cricket, my aim will always be to play for the country. So I want to focus on that.

And I am really positive about that opportunity coming pretty soon and I just want to work hard on my game and focus on whatever tournaments I play. I want to be ready for the day I get picked and I just want to give it my best every single day I play cricket,”

Since the 2017-18 Ranji Trophy season, Easwaran has amassed 2,890 runs for Bengal at an impressive average of 62.79.

Meanwhile, the India A captain failed to get off the mark for East Zone on Day 1, getting bowled for zero off Avesh Khan. After bundling Central Zone for 182, the Easwaran-led side were 33 for 2 at stumps on Day 1 at Alur.
