Out-of-favor English batsman Sam Billings has mocked Fox Sports for their premature dig at England cricket team.

The Englishmen, currently in India for a five-match Test series under Ben Stokes’ leadership, conceded a 190-run first advantage to the hosts at the halfway stage of their series-opening Hyderabad Test. Australian media giants Fox Sports ridiculed England’s performance with a sarcastic post on X (formerly Twitter), before the visitors launched a remarkable rearguard fightback to win the match by 28 runs.

After winning the toss and opting to bat first, England folded up for just 246 in their first innings on Day 1 courtesy of India’s spin brilliance from Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel. To make matters worse for the visitors, hosts tallied 436 in their first batting recital off the back of sparkling 80s from Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul and Jadeja.

With England finding themselves 190 runs away from hosts India, Australian sports broadcaster Fox Cricket ridiculed the visitor’s struggles by making a sarcastic post on X. They wrote:

“With no moral victories in sight let's break out the hypothetical ones England 🤣”

As it turned out, England’s number three Ollie Pope staged a remarkable fightback for the visitors by shaping up a splendid 196. Crucial runs from openers Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley as well as contributions from the lower-order set Team India a target of 231 runs on the penultimate day.

With five sessions left in the match, English debutant Tom Hartley cut through India’s famed batting line-up with astonishing figures of 7-62. Timely breakthroughs from Rehan Ahmed and Joe Root kept India within 28 runs of their target as England scripted a memorable series-leading win at Hyderabad.

After England’s emphatic win, Sam Billings took to the microblogging site to mock Fox Cricket’s premature remark from Day 3. The 32-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman, currently in UAE for the ongoing ILT20 2024 season, wrote:

“This aged well…… 😂😂😂😂😂”

With a 1-0 lead in the bank, England will now face India in the second Test of their five-match series at Visakhapatnam’s Dr. Y. S. Rajashekar Reddy ACA–VDCA Cricket Stadium. Their much-awaited fixture will be staged between February 2 and February 6.
