PCB To Appoint A New Full-Time Chairman Amid Never-Ending Drama Inside Board

In another dramatic turnaround in Pakistan cricket, PCB is set to have a new full-time chairman by next month after the general elections in the province conclude on the 8th of February.

Drama never stops at the Pakistan Cricket Board. In these past three years, the board witnessed as many as three chairmen taking office and leaving abruptly without any prior notice or viable cause.

After Ramiz Raja was sacked, Najam Sethi took charge but could only last for a few months. In the aftermath of the ODI World Cup debacle, Sethi quit the post, and subsequently, Zaka Ashraf was appointed as the caretaker chairperson of the cricket board. But he, too, left a few weeks ago, and since then, Shah Khawar has been leading the office.

Apparently, the interim management committee's tenure that has run PCB's affairs since December 2022 is coming to an end on February 4. After that, the board is free to conduct elections. However, due to general elections in the state on February 8, the PCB elections have been delayed by a few days.

Regardless, as per the latest rumors, PCB acting chairman Shah Khawar and Pakistan's caretaker Prime Minister Anwar ul Haq Kakar have elected the board of governors responsible for the election of a new chairman.

Moreover, speculations suggest that Mohsin Naqvi, the caretaker chief minister of Punjab province, is leading the race for the acclaimed post. However, to take over the new office, he has to quit his political post, which won't happen until the general election concludes on February 8.

That being said, the constant reshuffles and instability have ignited a sense of insecurity amongst the Pakistan-contracted players. They have clashed multiple times with the board over NOCs, and rumors of conflict in the dressing room are a frequent occurrence these days.

It's essential for the PCB to maintain a stable authority in order to ensure the success of Pakistan cricket in the long run.
