England is on course for victory in the third Ashes 2023 Test against Australia at Headingley, despite a majority of the third day being lost to rain. The humdinger of a match has seen the arch-rivals trade blows, but England seem favourites with two days of play left.

Tendulkar comes up with valuable advice for England batters

Day 3 ended with England at a promising start of 27/0 after five overs while chasing a target of 251 set by Australia, who were bowled out for 224 in their second innings. Australia's innings featured a fighting half-century from Travis Head, who stuck at one end as his partners kept changing at the other.

Meanwhile, the hosts, led by Ben Stokes, have received some prudent advice from former Indian cricketer, Sachin Tendulkar.

Keeping a keen watch on the Headingley Test, Tendulkar suggested England to maintain their discipline in shot selection while preserving their positive approach. He also highlighted the importance of the first hour of play on Day 4.

"The first hour at Headingley is going to be critical tomorrow. I feel the wicket is playing absolutely fine and if England bat sensibly and are positive in their approach they will get there. They require discipline in their shot selection with a positive approach and the total will be chased," Tendulkar wrote on Twitter.

The five-match Ashes 2023 currently sees England trailing Australia 0-2. The hosts had opted to field first, restricting Australia to 263, thanks to Mitchell Marsh's counter-attacking century. In response, despite being 87/5, England managed to reach 237 all out, aided by a gutsy 80 from Stokes, which cut the deficit to just 26 runs.

As the match progresses, England will seek to prevent a batting collapse and make a comeback in the series by winning the Headingley Test, while Australia will for an improbable turn of events.
