'Little Lost For Words': Mitchell Marsh On Century Against England in Headingley Test On Day 1

All-rounder Mitchell Marsh saved Australia from embarrassment in the ongoing third Ashes 2023 Test at Headingley on Day 1, slamming a run-a-ball 118 against England. Coming into bat with Australia's top-order failing, Marsh slammed a counter-attacking century, laced with 17 fours and four sixes, helping the visitors get past the 200-run mark.

Eventually, Australia were bundled out for 263 and found themselves in a position of strength at stumps on Day 1, having taken three England wickets by the end of play.

Marsh came into the XI as a last-minute replacement for Cameron Green, who suffered a hamstring strain. Speaking to BBC Sport, the 31-year-old claimed he felt a 'little lost for words' following his third Test hundred; his first since 2019.

Here's what Marsh said

"It was pretty amazing. I'm a little lost for words. It was a crazy day. It was nice to be back wearing my baggy green and it was a long time coming. It has taken a lot of hard work. I chose to have ankle surgery and missed the last Australian summer to get on this tour, knowing I was going to be Greeny's understudy. So I'm really proud to be able to get back,"

Marsh also claimed the key wicket of Zak Crawley, who scored a quick-fire 33 off 39.

England will resume batting on 68 for 3, with Joe Root and Jonathan Bairstow batting on 19* and 1*, respectively, trailing Australia by 195 runs.

Interestingly, Marsh's 102-ball 100 was the second-fastest century by an Australian batter in England; Victor Trumper scored a ton in 95 balls back in 1902.
