Cricket Australia Dismisses Leeds Barber's Accusations Of Non-Payment Against Alex Carey

Cricket Australia (CA) has jumped into the fray to defend its player, wicketkeeper-batter Alex Carey, in the latest twist to the ongoing Ashes 2023 drama. The Aussie stumper, who recently made headlines following his controversial dismissal of Jonny Bairstow, had been embroiled in a seemingly trivial payment dispute with an English barber.

CA defends Alex Carey over unpaid haircut allegations

The barber, Adam Mahmood, who works at Doc Barnet’s Barber Shop, alleged that Carey had not paid for a haircut, leaving an outstanding balance of £30. The claim was made public via a report by The Sun on Saturday, with Mahmood insisting that Carey had mentioned not having cash on hand at the time.

Cricket Australia, however, has categorically denied the allegations, with a statement as reported by Fox Cricket asserting that Carey had not even visited the said barber.

CA maintained that another player, whose identity was not revealed, had indeed received a trim at Doc Barnet's, but payment was made via an international money transfer. To further clarify their stand, CA also stated that they are willing to produce the receipt of the transaction to dispel any false assumptions.

Meanwhile, adding to the defense of his fellow cricketer, former Aussie captain Steve Smith had also taken to Meta's new platform, Threads, on Saturday to set the record straight. In his post, Smith confirmed that Carey had not had a haircut since their team arrived in London and criticized The Sun for their inaccurate report.

“I can confirm that Alex Carey has not had a haircut since we were in London. Get your facts right The Sun," wrote Smith.

Regarding the game, England are in a commanding position, placed at 27 for no loss at stumps on day 3. They need 224 more runs with ten wickets in hand to open their account in the series.
