On Wednesday, August 7, India suffered their first bilateral series defeat against Sri Lanka after 27 years as the Island Nation beat the Men in Blue by a thumping 110 runs.
The first ODI resulted in a tie, while Sri Lanka registered a 32-run win in the second game.
The batters were a big negative for the Indian side as the middle order collapsed in every game and failed to capitalise on the start provided by the openers, particularly Rohit Sharma.
The Indian skipper was even asked about the poor display in Sri Lanka, where he also shrugged off allegations of being complacent.
On the other hand, Sri Lankan spinners were on fire and totally dominated India in the recently concluded series. Meanwhile, Maheesh Theekshana, who featured in the 3rd ODI, spoke about India's performance and he also took a dig at the players.
“They (India) usually play on good wickets and small boundaries in India. We knew playing in Premadasa, if there’s little bit turn, we can take advantage because we have good spinners," remarked Theekshana.
“Rohit came into bat and he attacked me, Asitha got a good start, came back and got Shubman, and then Wellalage was brilliant, Vandersay did a great job … Hasaranga in the first game, Akila bowled economically in both the games. I wanted to bowl more dot balls. It was a team effort. All the players contributed, that’s why we ended up winning 2-0,” Theekshana added.
Theekshana was impressive against India in the 3rd ODI as he even deceived Rishabh Pant and took two wickets in the match.
