Former India cricketer and father to another India veteran Yuvraj Singh, Yograj Singh recently revealed his life of loneliness and how his son and wife left him at a point of his life.
As Yograj Singh, 67 now, revealed his painful memory of his close ones leaving him, the currently celebrated cricket coach also shared what made him think of life in such a negative light.
Emotional Yograj confesses pent up thoughts
Yograj, clearly exhausted emotionally, shared a grim picture of his current life where he leads a life of regret and isolation and is ready to give up on his life. Speaking to Vintage Studio in an interview, Yograj was expressive about his feelings.
"I sit alone in the evening, have no one at home. I rely on strangers for food, sometimes one person, sometimes the other. I don’t bother anyone though. Someone or the others gets food for me if I am hungry. I kept house help and cooks, they served and went away," Yograj Singh said in the interview.
Yograj Singh added:
“I love my mother, kids, daughter-in-law, grandchildren, everyone in the family. But, I don’t ask for anything. I am ready to die. My life is completed, whenever God wants, he can take me with him. I am so thankful to God, I pray and he keeps giving,” Yograj added.
Yograj admits Yuvraj, Shabnam leaving him
Yograj further revealed that his first wife, Shabnam, with whom he had Yuvraj Singh and Zoravar, left him. He admitted he wasn't innocent, but it was shocking for him as everyone he loved left him.
"When things came at a point where Yuvi and his mother left me, it gave me the biggest shock. The woman for whom I dedicated my entire life, all of my youth, they can also leave me and go away? A lot of things got destroyed like this. I asked God why all of this was happening when I did everything right by everyone. I might have made some mistakes, but I am an innocent man, didn’t do anything bad to anyone," Yograj said.
Yograj reflected on the many ups and downs he has faced in life. He often wonders why, now that he is old, he has no one to accompany him.
“It was God’s play, what was written for me. There was a lot of anger and feeling of revenge. Then cricket came in my life, got discontinued, made Yuvi play cricket, he played and left. Then, I got married again, had two kids, they also left for the US," he said.
In his recent role as a coach in Punjab, Yograj Singh has stayed involved in cricket by working with young fast bowlers and all-rounders. He is known for his old-school, intense training sessions, which feature long spells, rigorous fitness drills, and a constant focus on discipline.
Many domestic players acknowledge him for toughening their mentality and improving their basic skills, which makes him still relevant in hardcore cricket classes.
