Aiden Markram isn’t just happy, he’s relieved after Lucknow Super Giants retained him for IPL 2026. In a video put out by LSG, Markram spoke candidly about why staying with the franchise means so much to him and what fans can expect next year.

Markram had a solid individual season in 2025. He slammed 445 runs in 13 matches, averaging 34.23, with a good strike rate of 148.83.

His consistency included five half-centuries and even four wickets, proving his value as a multi-dimensional player.

Aiden Makram says he’s eager for a fresh start with LSG

LSG clearly saw enough to bank on him again, and Aiden Markram sees that as a huge vote of confidence.

In a video released by the Super Giants franchise, Makram said he is grateful to be retained.

"Yeah, it's great. I really enjoyed my time with the Lucknow franchise last year. I made some really good friendships and enjoyed just a few months together with the squad. So, I'm very grateful to be retained and obviously looking forward to another season with them," Markram said.

Aiden Markram believes LSG were close to firing as a unit in 2025. Despite the major changes, the team still finished seventh, missing the playoffs for the second straight year.

Their season was derailed after consecutive losses at the business end, costing them a place in the knockouts. Still, Markram isn’t losing hope.

"Before you know it, you've qualified for the knockout. So, definitely not overcomplicating anything. I think trying to do the things we did well, try to redo those things and win a couple more crunch moments. Before you know it, I think the competition looks really promising for us," he added.

Who else did LSG retain?

Lucknow Super Giants announced their IPL 2026 retention list after another disappointing season in 2025.

It retained 17 players, which included overseas stars Aiden Markram and Nicholas Pooran, while releasing big names like David Miller, Ravi Bishnoi, Shamar Joseph, and Akash Deep.

Key retentions include Rishabh Pant, Mohammed Shami (trade-in), Mayank Yadav, Abdul Samad and Mitchell Marsh.

LSG now have six slots, including four overseas, to fill at the mini auction. With a remaining purse of ₹22.95 crore, the team hopes to rebuild their squad and push for a stronger campaign in IPL 2026.
