Pakistan secured a clean sweep over Sri Lanka in the three-match ODI series after the November 16 match, where the Men in Green clinched a six-wicket win. The 3-0 sweep was a moment to celebrate. However, Pakistan captain Shaheen Afridi was more interested in celebrating the success of the young squad that triumphed over India A in the Asia Cup Rising Stars 2025 tournament.
Shaheen lauds Pakistan after 3-0 sweep against SL
As Pakistan bundled Sri Lanka for 211 runs, they chased 212 and wrapped up the game inside 45 overs. Shaheen Afridi scalped one wicket, while Mohammad Wasim Jr. picked up three wickets to dismantle Sri Lanka's top and middle order.
Applauding the contribution of the Pakistan team as well as Wasim, Shaheen Afridi spoke about the positive development of the team since the South Africa series.
"Winning the series 3-0, always happy. Like I said during the 1st game, everyone has been confident. They have been in good touch since the South Africa series. All the 15 players should be ready for any game. The rotation policy is good for us. Credit goes to him. He was sitting on the bench but still worked. He played domestic cricket as well, bowled well to him. They are wicket-takers. The way Wasim Jr came back after injury. They are both match-winners for the team," Shaheen Afridi told the reporters after the match.
Afridi takes subtle dig at IND A after Rising Stars win
Shaheen Afridi was also animated about Pakistan Shaheens' win over India A in the ongoing Asia Cup Rising Stars Tournament in Doha.
Notably, Pakistan Shaheens won the match by 8 wickets with 40 balls remaining as they chased down a target of 137, thanks to the firepower of Maaz Sadaqat. Speaking on the win, Shaheen shared a line that clearly expressed his excitement.
"Pakistan Shaheens won against our neighbours, so that's a big achievement for us," said Shaheen.
For the unaware, India A’s Vaibhav Suryavanshi was the sole batter with a top score of 45 runs from 28 balls. Naman Dhir also chipped in with 35 runs off 20 balls. However, it was not enough as the middle order collapsed in front of a disciplined bowling attack from Shahid Aziz and Saad Masood.
In the chase, Maaz Sadaqat smashed a whirlwind 79 off 47 balls to flay India A and secure a dominant win in the heated-up tournament.
