Former West Indies captain Brian Lara shared a heartfelt message for the Windies cricket after attending second Test between India and West Indies in Delhi. He praised the visitors for their comeback after a difficult start.

Lara hopes for a better future of West Indies cricket

West Indies cricket legend Brian Lara took to social media to express his pride for West Indies team for showing their fighting spirit and resilience. The way West Indies made a comeback after being bowled out for 248 runs in their first innings during the second Test, it made Lara emotional. Lara shared his experience and wrote,

"Firstly, I want to express with great humility what an honour it was to be called upon to represent West Indies cricket at such a crucial time. I understand the current struggle and the restrictive financial situation, but like our players are showing presently, if we fight hard and believe in the cause, there will be a light shining at the end of the tunnel to take us through it all."

As the veteran spent time with the players, he understood their challenges and aspirations. Reflecting the same, Lara wrote about the interactions he had with the players.

"Being in the presence of the players brought me closer to their reality. The number of questions they asked showed me that they're not just going through the motions - they're searching for ways to lift themselves and the team out of this strife."

Lara's appeal to Cricket West Indies

Lara further made an appeal to Cricket West Indies (CWI) to involve former Windies cricketers into the system more to help the current generation with guidance and mentorship. He opined that assuming commitment from outside might be wrong as the players are “searching for inspiration and breakthroughs”.

"Sometimes from the outside looking in, we assume their commitment is lacking, but we may be wrong. Often, they just need guidance. Something for CWI to consider would be having one of our greats, and we have a few, to provide a presence amongst the team. Not necessarily travel as part of the team but to be seen and to be available for our players to bounce ideas off when they are searching for inspiration and breakthroughs."

Lara highlighted how the presence of greats like Sir Vivian Richards might be beneficial for the team. He concluded by thanking the hosts and fellow legends.
