While India managed to wrap up the first Test against West Indies in under three days, it took almost the full duration for the Men in Blue to seal victory in the second Test at Delhi. The second Test was marked by a dominant opening knock from Yashasvi Jaiswal, which became the highlight of the match.

However, what followed was a gritty fightback from the West Indies in their second innings. Let’s take a look at how things unfolded on Day 5 as India emerged victorious to seal a 2-0 series win over the visitors.

Roston Chase manages to dent India’s pride on Day 5

Day 5 began with Sai Sudharsan and KL Rahul resuming their unbeaten 54-run stand. India needed just 58 runs to clinch the series after Stumps on Day 4. However, after a patient start from the duo, India stumbled when Sai Sudharsan was dismissed by Roston Chase for 39 runs in his second innings.

It was a surprising jolt for India to lose a wicket while chasing such a small target with plenty of time left in the day. Shubman Gill, the skipper, came in to bat at an unusual No. 4 position but also failed to stay long, falling to Chase again for just 13 runs.

The only highlight from Day 5 was KL Rahul’s fifty, which came off a gritty 102 balls. Dhruv Jurel and KL Rahul were present at the crease til the end to sum up the game as India won by 7 wickets.

West Indies’ gritty fightback after follow-on

As India sealed a dominant win over West Indies, the highlight of the entire Test remained Yashasvi Jaiswal’s opening knock of 175 runs off 258 balls and skipper Shubman Gill’s unbeaten 129 in India’s first innings, helping the hosts post a massive 518/5.

West Indies, in response, were bundled out for 248 runs in their first innings, thanks to Kuldeep Yadav’s spin brilliance as he claimed five wickets, while Ravindra Jadeja picked up three.

This led India to enforce the follow-on, where the Caribbean side displayed remarkable resilience. John Campbell and Shai Hope stitched a massive 177-run stand, while Justin Greaves and Jayden Seales added a 79-run partnership to post 390 on the board, erasing the deficit and setting India a 121-run target to chase.

Nevertheless, India will be flying high with this series win, as it also marks their 10th consecutive Test series win against the West Indies.
