India vs Pakistan matches are always high-voltage events, packed with emotions, fans, and history. In 2024, the two teams locked horns at a brand-new venue New York and the contest turned out to be a thrilling ride that kept everyone on the edge of their seats.
As the one-year anniversary of India’s T20 World Cup 2024 win approaches, Indian ODI skipper Rohit Sharma has shared a shocking behind-the-scenes moment from that high-pressure match.
Rohit Sharma Reveals: “There Was A Threat”
In a recent conversation on JioHotstar, Rohit opened up about the tense situation the Indian team faced just before the mega clash.
“Before the India vs Pakistan match, we were told there was a threat — something was going on. So, two days before the game, we weren’t allowed to step out of the hotel. The atmosphere started building from there," Rohit said.
“We were ordering food in, and the hotel was so packed you could barely walk. Fans, media — everyone was there. That’s when you realise this isn’t just another match — something special is about to happen. As soon as we got near the stadium, it already felt like a celebration — Indian fans, Pakistani fans, all dancing and enjoying themselves,” he added.
Rohit, who has featured in countless India vs Pakistan games, admitted that no matter how many times he plays, the excitement and pressure are always on another level.
“I’ve played so many India–Pakistan games now — I’ve lost count — but that pre-match energy, that feeling… It’s always something else. Nothing compares to it,” said Rohit Sharma.
India Edge Out Pakistan In A Thriller
When the match finally began, it lived up to the hype. Pakistan chose to bowl first, and India had a shaky start. Virat Kohli fell early, scoring just four off 3 balls. Rohit followed him soon after, scoring 13 off 12.
But it was Rishabh Pant who held things together for India. Despite wickets falling around him, Axar Patel scored 20, Suryakumar Yadav seven runs, Pant stayed calm and steady, scoring a crucial 42 off 31 balls. India managed to post 119 runs.
Pakistan’s bowling was led by Naseem Shah and Haris Rauf, both picking up three wickets each.
Chasing 120, Pakistan struggled. Mohammad Rizwan was the top scorer with 31 off 44 balls, while Imad Wasim added 15. In the end, Pakistan could only manage 113/7 in 20 overs, and India won by 6 runs in a nerve-wracking finish.
India Lift T20 World Cup 2024 Against South Africa
That win against Pakistan became one of the key moments in India’s journey to lifting the T20 World Cup 2024 trophy. They went on to defeat South Africa by seven runs in the final, ending a 13-year wait for an ICC trophy.
The fairy tale didn’t stop there. Under Rohit’s captaincy, India also clinched the Champions Trophy 2025 in Dubai, making it two ICC trophies in just nine months.
