Former South African cricketer AB de Villiers has heaped high praise on young Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal, stating that he knew that the latter was "special" when he first watched the southpaw in the IPL.

Jaiswal enjoyed a fairytale international debut last week as he batted for nearly two days to blunt the West Indian attack into the ground during his magical 177.

The southpaw showed his full range of shots, but most importantly, his unflappable patience and temperament as he went on to face more than 350 (387) rocks.

His 229-run-stand with Rohit Sharma and then another century stand with Virat Kohli ensured that India batted the hosts out of the game.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, De Villiers recalled that he thought Jaiswal was destined for greatness when he first squared off against the youngster during the 2020 edition of the IPL.

AB further added that Jaiswal seems to have a lot of time on his hands, adding that he is 'hot prospect' for India.

‘It’s not every day that a youngster comes out in a Test match in his very first game and scores a hundred. The very first time I watched him play in the IPL, I thought there’s something really special. You can always look at the guy and how much time he has while facing the ball. He’s got time when he’s playing. The pace of the ball is not going to bother him. Even when he’s playing spin, it looks like he’s got time. He just looks like he’s got time to make decisions while other players might seem rushed. He’s a very talented youngster and hot prospect for the future for India. I am very happy to watch him score a hundred in that first Test match.” said AB de Villiers on his official YouTube channel.

Jaiswal has thus far scored 10 First-Class hundreds in just 16 matches and he is currently averaging above 80. He will look to continue with his imperious run in the 2nd Test, which will take place at Port of Spain from July 20.
