‘The IPL Is...,' Trophy Winning Coach On Influence Of T20 Leagues In World Cup Selection

Former cricketer Tom Moody recently talked about the importance of remarkable performances by players in franchise Cricket ahead of marquee international tournaments. Ahead of the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024, multiple T20 leagues have been scheduled, the Indian Premier League being the most important and biggest of all of them. 

Moody discussed that franchise T20 leagues make it easier for the cricket board to pick up players depending on their performance in the shorter format. He also reflected on the idea of how consistent performance influences the selection team committees to consider players who have been uniform while being reliable in the format.

In an exclusive chat with NDTV, Tom Moody highlighted the importance of player performances in franchise cricket leagues. 

He said,

 "The IPL (set to be played between March-May), along with any other T20 tournament, like the ILT20, is important for any player to be performing because every home team is looking at the performances of all their players in these tournaments because of the high-quality cricket in these (leagues)."


"If you are scoring runs, taking wickets and showing consistency, it only puts you in a good position as an individual when it comes to those final tough decisions around the selection table. It allows you to continue with that sort of confidence, going into an important (T20) World Cup.”


"Many people have played in the Caribbean but what would be presented in the US will be one of many different things. Talking about world-class players, they have played in all sorts of conditions and situations. I believe the top players and teams would adapt pretty quickly, whether it's chasing down a total over 200 or even low-scoring ones," Moody concluded.

The IPL 2024 is likely to start from March 22 and is likely to play a big influence on selection of Indian team for T20 World Cup 2024 in June.
