Cheteshwar Pujara continues to pound more selection doors as he crafted yet another century this Ranji Trophy 2024 season. The ageing warhorse lifted Saurashtra to recovery in their Elite Group A clash against Rajasthan in Jaipur with an imperial triple-figure knock on the opening day of the contest.

Pujara, who played the last of his 103 Tests back in June 2023 at The Oval, was also overlooked from India’s squad for the ongoing five-match series against England. With the likes of Virat Kohli and KL Rahul likely to miss out from the remainder of Team India matches, the 36-year-old might well jump into selector’s contention for a potential Test call-up.

Batting barnacle Cheteshwar Pujara lifted Saurashtra to recovery by pounding a cautious hundred against Rajasthan in their recent Ranji Trophy 2024 faceoff at Jaipur’s Sawai Mansingh Stadium.

Arriving to the crease at 33-2 on Day 1 following the early dismissals of opener Kevin Jivrajani and number three Vishvaraj Jadeja, Pujara added valiant runs with wicketkeeper-batsman Harvik Desai before sharing a 168-run stand with half-centurion Sheldon Jackson.

The Indian Test veteran pumped out 110 runs from his end from 230 balls and belted nine boundaries in the process to take his side past the 200-run mark before stumps. Pujara’s marathon effort marked his 62nd first-class century and his second 100-plus score of the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2024 season.

Unfortunately for the cricketer, he could not survive till stumps as he was trapped in front by Rajasthan’s left-arm spinner Ajay Singh in the final over of the day.

Cheteshwar Pujara commenced his Ranji Trophy 2024 journey for Saurashtra with a marvelous 243 against Jharkhand in his team’s opening match of the tournament.

As of now, the 103-Test veteran is fighting his way to earn a potential return call to the national side amidst their home series against England.
