Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have set the scene alive for their legendary skipper MS Dhoni to embrace playing duties for the defending champions at the next edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). As the great captain gears up for his 15th year at the helm of CSK's affairs, the franchise unveiled a special new jersey for him.

CSK shared a special No.7 jersey for Dhoni on their social media platforms ahead of the IPL 2024, which is speculated to begin on March 22 and could be the remarkable Thala's farewell season for the yellow army. The 42-year-old skipper is the most successful leader in IPL history alongside Mumbai Indians' (MI) former captain Rohit Sharma with five titles apiece.

Even though he hails from Ranchi, Dhoni has become a proud adopted son of the soil for Chennai's passionate cricket lovers, who adore CSK and its legacy under his captaincy. Apart from winning the trophy five times, Dhoni's men have also qualified for the playoffs 12 times in their 14 campaigns.

Despite the retirement speculations, Dhoni continues to keep his cards close to his chest and hasn't shared any dialogue even with the heads of the CSK franchise in this regard, as revealed by CSK's CEO Kasi Viswanathan.

Dhoni had initially indicated that the 2023 edition of the IPL, returning to full-fledged home and away format, could be his last since he wanted to end on a high in front of his great fanbase in Chepauk.

However, the cricketer made no such announcements after winning the trophy and said his participation in the next edition will depend on how well he recovers from the knee injury, for which he underwent surgery.

Having recovered and rejuvenated nicely over the past six months, Dhoni recently entered the final leg of his preparations for IPL 2024, including facing throwdowns at the nets in Ranchi. He will soon be joining CSK for a pre-season training camp in Chennai ahead of the tournament.
