Two of the biggest superstars of the current generation in Indian cricket, skipper Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have been the core members of the side for the past decade. The top-order batters have often taken care of the team when in trouble with their experience and class.

However, both of them have been rested from the upcoming first two games of the three-match ODI series against Australia, with KL Rahul announced as the captain for those matches.

Both of them will return to the fore for the final game, but questions arose regarding their unavailability for the matches, to which head coach Rahul Dravid has put all the speculations to rest.

Dravid, a day before the first ODI in the press conference, iterated that both Rohit and Virat have been rested that too after proper consultation because the entire team management wanted them fresh and fit for the all-important World Cup, which is set to officially begin on the 5th October.

"The decision to rest Kohli and Rohit was taken after mutual discussion & consultation as the team wanted them to be fresh mentally and physically for the World Cup."

Not just these two but Hardik Pandya, Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel (if fit) will also return to the national setup for the final game that will happen on 27th September in Rajkot.

The series will act as a dress rehearsal for the World Cup and, possibly, might see the Indian team play with their strongest XI in the last game before the mega event.
