In a significant development, following Chennai Super Kings' (CSK) defeat to Delhi Capitals on Saturday, head coach Stephen Fleming opened up on speculation regarding MS Dhoni’s retirement. It was an all-round performance from the capitals, Axar Patel and his men got the better of CSK in Chennai by 25 runs.

After posting a formidable total on the board, Delhi's bowlers kept the CSK batters in check, never allowing them to build any significant momentum during the chase. In the end, the hosts fell short of the target, and the visitors emerged victorious, climbing to the top of the points table.

Dhoni Retirement Rumors Resurface Ahead of CSK vs DC Face-off

Notably, there was constant chaos and many speculation about MS Dhoni taking retirement following the match against Delhi. The rumors quickly gained momentum, especially after Dhoni’s family, including his parents, arrived in Chennai ahead of the game, prompting fans and media to wonder if the CSK veteran was about to make a big announcement.

However, no official statement came from the Super Kings after the match concluded and to put the rumors to rest, head coach Stephen Fleming skeptically addressed the situation, dismissing all the talks regarding Dhoni’s retirement during the post match press conference.

“No, That's not my role to put an end to it. I have no idea. I am just enjoying working with him still. He is still going strong. I do not even ask these days,” Fleming said on being asked about Dhoni’s retirement.

Fleming’s comments reassured fans, confirming that it is not the end of Dhoni after the loss against the Capitals. The kiwi coach remained adamant that Dhoni is not thinking about retirement anytime soon and is still doing fine to be starting in an IPL playing XI.

CSK’s 2025 Season on the Brink

Coming back to CSK's IPL 2025 campaign, the yellow army have had a challenging start as they have won only one of their first four games this season so far. As a result, they are currently placed in the bottom half of the points table following their defeat against Delhi.

Moreover, three of their defeats have come at their own backyard in Chennai, which further fuels the alarming situation for the team. As the season progresses, this poor form could pose a significant barrier for Ruturaj Gaikwad’s men.
