Chennai Super Kings lost by 25 runs against Delhi Capitals in the 17th match of IPL 2025. Batting first, KL Rahul’s fine 77 runs inning powered Delhi to 183 runs total. Meanwhile, CSK flattered completely in the chase. With no considerable partnership at the top, Chennai fell short of 25 runs to endure another humiliating loss on home turf.

Here’s how CSK vs DC panned out in Chennai:

Khaleel Ahmed Unravels New-Ball Magic In Powerplay

CSK were asked to bowl first and Khaleel Ahmed had a perfect start for his team. His effectiveness with the new ball has been impressive this IPL season and he showed a glimpse of it by dismissing Jake Fraser-McGurk.

In the very first over, after four tight dot balls, the pressure got the better of the Aussie batter, who attempted a desperate heave but only managed to sky it off the toe end. Ravi Ashwin showcased his experience by backpedalling from mid-on and completing a sharp reverse catch, setting the tone for a dominant CSK start.

KL Rahul Oozes Class To Post Formidable Total For DC

Abhishek Porel and KL Rahul built a 54-run partnership after Jake’s wicket. While Porel threw his wicket away against Ravindra Jadeja, Rahul showcased his class, slamming a stylish half-century. He accumulated 77 off 51 balls before Axar Patel, Sameer Rizvi and Tristan Stubbs contributed with 21, 20 and 24 runs respectively.

Owing to everyone’s timely contribution, Delhi Capitals put a formidable total of 183 runs on the board in the first inning. For CSK, Mukesh Choudhary's experiment didn’t work as he conceded 50 runs in his spell without a wicket.

CSK’s Misery In Chase Continues

Chennai Super Kings had a terrible start to the chase as they lost Rachin Ravindra in the second over. A slower, short-of-length ball on leg-stump by Mukesh Kumar saw Ravindra misjudge the pace and close the bat face too early. A faint leading edge popped gently back to the bowler and Mukesh kept his cool and completed the catch on his follow-through.

Next, CSK were jolted by the wicket of captain Ruturaj Gaikwad. A short ball from Mitchell Starc aimed at the body, and Gaikwad went for a casual short-arm jab. The timing was off, and Jake Fraser didn't even flinch, pouching a clean catch. With that, CSK 2 down with just 20 runs on the board.

Chennai Suffer Another Humiliating Loss

CSK never got going in the chase. They kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Vipraj Nigam dismissed Devon Conway and Shivam Dube before Kuldeep Yadav struck to send back Ravindra Jadeja. A couple of dropped catches offered a reprieve to Vijay Shankar, but the required run rate was beyond his control.

He slammed a half-century and scored 69* off 54 balls. MS Dhoni also contributed 30* runs, but that wasn’t enough. Eventually, CSK fell short of 25 runs to suffer another embarrassing defeat. On the other hand, Delhi Capitals got their third victory of the season as they extended their unbeaten run.
