'Stick To Your Decision And Be...' Wasim Akram Slams PCB After Salman Butt Fiasco

A shocking appointment of tainted former skipper Salman Butt as a member of the new selection committee was duly revoked just one day later by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

However, legendary Wasim Akram stood critical of the cricket board for it, accusing they've created an unstable set-up where decisions are made and changed quickly without any sound reasons.

Pakistan have undergone a series of changes in their coaching, selection, and leadership since the disastrous pre-semifinal exit at the ICC World Cup 2023 in India.

One of the changes involved appointing Butt as the new chief selector, Wahab Riaz's ally, which was a controversial move considering the man had faced a five-year ban and jail term for masterminding the 2010 Lord's spot-fixing scandal.

Wasim Critical Of PCB's Hasty Decisions

Riaz was forced to remove Butt only a day after roping him, as the reigning Pakistani government took offence at the cricketing involvement of the former cricketer who brought disgrace to the country's name.

While Wasim didn't defend Butt in the matter, he questioned why such decisions are being made and revoked in haste since they are only creating a genuine lack of stability within the set-up and going to make it tough for everyone involved.

"Don't hold a press conference after every three minutes," Wasim posted in a video posted on Twitter. "Stick to your decision. You [PCB] should be aware of the consequences of your decision [...] Think before [you make a decision]. Be brave."

Butt was the Pakistan captain at the time when he asked his pacers Mohammad Amir and Mohammad Asif to deliver deliberate no-balls during the 2010 Test against England for hefty payouts arranged for the trio by the bookies.

Their proven involvement led to a sanction of bans imposed on the three players worth ten years for Butt, of which five were suspended, Asif for seven years, with two suspended, and Amir was banned for five years. Butt was even sentenced to a two and a half years of jail term, from which he got bailed early.
