To the delight of cricket fans across the globe, the much-awaited IPL 2024 mini-auction will be conducted on the 19th of this month. The ten IPL franchises, who recently released several players from their squad, will look forward to forming a robust team by utilising their purse amount. 1166 players, including some high-profile names, will go under the hammer in what promises to be an absolute blockbuster event.

However, there are some players who might not attract any bidders and, hence, could go unsold in the auction. So, before the show begins, here are five cricketers who might not be picked in the IPL 2024 mini-auction.

Adil Rashid

Ace English spinner Adil Rashid was picked by Sunrisers Hyderabad for INR 2 Crores in last year's mega auction. However, the experienced leg spinner was unimpressive with the ball, scalping only two wickets at a miserable economy of 10 in two matches.

Considering his sub-par performance, SRH decided to release him to the auction pool. Although Rashid has ample experience in the shortest format, his base price of 2 Crores could deter his chances of getting picked for the IPL, where most teams generally prefer local spinners.

Kedar Jadhav

Once a vital cog in India's ODI setup, Kedar Jadhav was picked as a replacement player for English all-rounder David Willey. The batter played two matches in IPL 2023, scoring 12 runs off ten deliveries. He has a base price of INR 2 Crores, so we don't think any team will buy him, considering his age and recent form.

Matthew Short

Hailed for his all-round attributes, Matthew Short rose to prominence during the Big Bash League 2022-23, emerging as a match-winner for Adelaide Strikers with bat and ball.

However, the explosive right-hander had a forgettable IPL journey, as he could score only 117 runs at a modest strike rate of 127.17 in six innings. Despite being given a long rope, Short hasn't done anything significant in T20Is for Australia, so we don't expect him to be picked in the upcoming mini-auction.

Jhye Richardson

Despite being a gifted bowler, Jhye Richardson's career has not taken off due to frequent injury setbacks.

As someone who could make the new ball talk, Richardson was bought by Mumbai Indians in the mega auction only to see Riley Meredith replacing him after a hamstring injury ruled him out of the tournament.

So, considering his fragile fitness, we reckon the seamer could fail to attract any team in the upcoming auction.

Odean Smith

The all-rounder from West Indies grabbed the eyeballs following his exploits in the Caribbean Premier League. However, after a mediocre stint with Punjab Kings, his value dipped significantly, with Gujarat Titans buying him for INR 50 Lakhs in the mega auction.

Smith didn't play a single game, and the Titans eventually released him before this year's mini-auction. He has been poor with bat and ball in whatever opportunity he has got recently. Therefore, we expect Odean Smith to go unsold in the 2024 auction.
