Salman Butt, who was appointed as one of Pakistan’s three new consultants for the selection committee on Friday alongside Kamran Akmal and Rao Iftikhar Anjum, is no longer holding his position. Wahab Riaz, the chief selector of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), confirmed the news while attending a press conference on Saturday.

Butt, who was involved in the infamous spot-fixing scandal in 2010, has been heavily criticized in Pakistan since his appointment. Therefore, Wahab and the PCB changed their minds not to go along with him from here on, which could have led them to spark more controversies.

“Salman Butt is one of the great cricket minds and he was appointed by me as my consultant to provide me feedback but now I am reverting my decision. I have told Salman that he cannot be part of my team now,” Riaz told the reporters regarding the development.

As Riaz lashed out at Butt's critics, he pointed out that India have evolved over the years from previous infamous incidents involving Mohammad Mohammad Azharuddin and Ajay Jadeja.

“In India, we have examples of Mohammad Azharuddin and Ajay Jadeja. They are working in cricket now and there is no fuss. Azharuddin is president of one of the cricket associations and Jadeja was Afghanistan's batting consultant in the World Cup,” Riaz added.

"Salman Butt has served his time, people have to move on now. They are instead running agendas against myself and against Salman, and a few media houses are involved in running agendas. People were accusing me of nepotism too."

In addition, Wahab declared that Asad Shafiq will take Butt's place and that his tenure will begin on January 1.

Meanwhile, Kamran Akmal and Rao Iftikhar Anjum will continue to hold their positions as PCB's selection committee consultants.
