Rohit Sharma = MS Dhoni! Former Indian Captain's Ex-Colleague Makes A Shocking Statement

Rohit Sharma nearly ended India's ICC title drought in the recently concluded World Cup 2023, where they were outclassed by winners Australia in the final.

Sharma led Team India as a leader and as a batter from the front, setting an example for incoming players while exhibiting shrewdness in the field in moments of pressure. 

Former India pacer S Sreesanth, who played alongside Sharma during his initial years, stated how the current Indian captain's leadership style resembles that of former skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

Dhoni guided India to the ICC T20 World Cup, World Cup, and Champions Trophy wins during his captaincy tenure, where both Sreesanth and Sharma were members of the 20-overs campaign.

Speaking to Firstpost, Sreesanth spelt out similarities between Sharma's and Dhoni's captaincy style, where "street-smartness" came through. 


Here's what S Sreesanth said about MSD, Rohit

“He’s (Rohit Sharma) a street-smart cricketer and he’s somebody more like Dhoni bhai who doesn’t just get off the scene straight away. Even if the bowling’s not that great, even if the fielding’s not that great he makes sure he backs up the fielders, he backs up the fielders. It’s a great trend. Even in the World Cup, the players who were not playing he was going to them asking for suggestions.  

"Yes, he’s the captain but he’s been there as their brother and been there as their best friend. So it’s very important. So I think that’s one of the best qualities a captain can have."

Both Dhoni and Sharma have won five Indian Premier League (IPL) trophies each as captains of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Mumbai Indians (MI), respectively.
