Rajasthan Royals (RR) dug their own grave against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) as they witnessed an unnecessary collapse in panic in 176 runs chase during Qualifier 2 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season.

RR had things in control after the first innings of the Qualifier 2 game against SRH and were poised to secure a finals berth alongside Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).

After restricting SRH to 175 runs, Yashasvi Jaiswal’s 21 balls 42 runs knock ensured a fiery start for RR. However, things went spiralling down after Jaiswal fell to Shahbaz Ahmed right after the powerplay.

What followed later was an unwarranted collapse from the middle order as captain Sanju Samson, in-form batter Riyan Parag and reliable finisher Shimron Hetmyer were dismissed cheaply in quick successions.

What made fans’ blood boil was the nature of the dismissals which seemed unwarranted and unnecessary given RR were at a comfortable stage. Samson and Parag had no business playing rash shots, especially during a knockout game.

Needless to say, the shocking collapse in clutch moments irked the fans’ nerves as they slammed RR for choking at a crucial stage. RR fans were unforgiving and slammed Sanju Samson and co for not being up to the mark in important games.

Notably, RR had a successful season in April as they climbed to the top of the table. However, they ended up with no wins in May yet finished to not only qualify but also outplay RCB in the eliminator.

However, nothing worked for RR on Friday evening as they seem likely to bottle the chase and crash out of the IPL 2024 season playoffs.
