Former South African fast bowler Dale Steyn has publicly criticised national head coach Shukri Conrad over the latter’s controversial remarks against Team India at the end of Day 4 of the series-deciding Guwahati Test. The cricketer seemingly cut all ties with Conrad, and expressed his disappointment over the latter’s comments.

It is worth noting that Shukri Conrad had said that he wanted South Africa to make “India really grovel” after his team had a dominant Day out on November 25.

Dale Steyn “not on that boat” with Conrad’s remarks

While speaking on the Star Sports network on Day 5, former South African cricketer and legendary fast bowler Dale Steyn criticised national head coach Shukri Conrad for his controversial “grovel” remarks, describing them “unnecessary” after South Africa’s dominance.

Dale Steyn said:

“I’m not on that boat, eh? I don’t like that. I almost don’t even want to make a comment about it. There are certain things you just don’t say. There’s stigma attached to it. It just wasn’t necessary. South Africa were in such a dominant position—saying nothing is enough. I’m just not on that boat.”

Dale Steyn expressed his disappointment, as he believes that anyone at that level should not use “words like that”. He added:

“Maybe I pick up his tone now—it’s not as harsh as Tony Greig’s. But that doesn’t matter. You just don’t use words like that. Toss it. You don’t have to say it. That’s disappointing. Sorry, Shukri, but that’s disappointing.”

Compatible to Shukri Conrad’s remarks, South Africa seemingly did made India “grovel” by setting hosts a target of 549 runs.

Moreover, South African bowlers dismissed half of the Indian line-up by the end of first session as the visitors eye a historic 2-0 series win.
